Collector: 2 years ago I submitted here a reframed scan I did from an article about The Smiths published in an obscure French magazine from the early 90’s called: “Moderne”. Check for this post Here. Recently I received an e-mail from a fan of this band asking me for more details about this unknown magazine and this precise publication. So I decided to re-scan and to re-submit this image showing the original photo taken by Gilles Decroix (in the frame) for the cover of The Smiths’ album: “Hatful of hollow”. This is a (not perfect) translation from French you can read as a caption under this photo.
“Another even more surprising story, even intriguing one. The badly reproduced photo used for the Hatful of hollow’s cover isn’t at all to be credited to Paul Slatter, but to Gilles Decroix who never had been contacted by anyone from The Smiths. So we found back this photographer and the original photography and decided to compose this picture, adding the hand in the glove and the flowers in the foreground. So we’re offering to you a real Collector”

Johnny Marr photographed by Paul Slattery backstage at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, Valentine’s Day, 1984.
For me this picture is like a Pop music icon, showing Johnny Marr, guitar hero and ex Smiths one of the very best Pop band ever (my favorite one) …that’s why I spent some times to retouch, tune, reframe and change the toning on it (click on the photo above to see the original one)
